What is Money Market Checking?

A money market checking account is an interest-bearing account that pays out in regular dividends. They are very similar to savings accounts, but they offer the same features as checking accounts. Money market accounts earn competitive rates while being a safe place to save money. In order to earn higher dividends, they require a larger minimum deposit and a higher daily balance.

What’s the difference between Money Market Checking and a Share Savings account?

The main difference between a Savings account and a Money Market Checking account is that money market accounts have wider access to funds. Money Market Checking comes with unlimited check writing, the ability to make unlimited transactions, and our Visa ExpressCheck debit card is available upon request. Money market Checking also has a higher variable dividend rate that increases based on the account balance.

Is Money Market Checking right for me?

Money Market Checking is better suited for short-term goals rather than long-term financial planning. If you regularly require large sums of cash available instead of investing, then Money Market Checking may be right for you. It may also be a good idea if you’re saving up for a specific purchase, such as a vacation, the down payment for a car, or to build up funds for your emergency funds. They are not intended for long-term investment purposes like retirement.
